Travis Mann (Navy active duty) is one of approximately a dozen volunteers who are taking on the Memorial Day walk this month, hoping to restore what they call the true meaning of Memorial Day — honoring fallen service members, rather than celebrating the start of summer.

Imagine walking from Boston to Dallas, 2,000 miles in 30 days. That’s 66 miles per day.

“It’s an incredible experience. On this trip, I have seen firsthand family members of buddies of mine that have been killed in combat defending our freedoms,” said Mann, who has made the walk every year since 2012.
