The risk of personal injury never crossed three men’s minds as they raced to help a police officer who was being assaulted last week.

Sharpe and Whitesell are both certified first aid attendants on their worksite, but none of them knew what they were getting into when they rushed over.

“Being a first-aid attendant I was responding to an accident and everything that transpired,” said Sharpe. “That was me just trying to help.”

“I actually thought someone might have been hit, a pedestrian at the crosswalk, and I’m first aid on site as well with Jake (Sharpe), and that’s when we came around the corner and saw the officer being assaulted,” Whitesell said. “ I didn’t think, just reacted to it.”

The suspect reportedly tried to drag the stunned officer out of his vehicle before the three men intervened.
